About SDEMPED 2027 — IEEE International Symposium on Diagnostics for Electrical Machines, Power Electronics and Drives

About the Symposium

Purpose & Scope

SDEMPED — the IEEE International Symposium on Diagnostics for Electrical Machines, Power Electronics and Drives — is the premier international forum dedicated to the science and practice of condition monitoring, fault detection, and diagnostics applied to electrical machines, power electronics, and drive systems.

The symposium brings together researchers, engineers, and industry practitioners from across the globe to share the latest advances in diagnostic methodologies, signal processing techniques, machine learning applications, and real-world deployment of condition monitoring systems. SDEMPED addresses both fundamental research and applied engineering, fostering cross-disciplinary collaboration between academia and industry.

Topics span the full spectrum of diagnostics: from motors, generators, transformers, and power converters to wind turbines, traction drives, and emerging applications in electromobility and renewable energy. The symposium provides a unique environment for technical exchange that is unmatched by broader electrical engineering conferences.

History

The SDEMPED Series

SDEMPED has been held biennially since its inaugural edition, growing from a specialist workshop into a fully established IEEE symposium with strong international participation. Over the years, the symposium has been hosted across Europe, reflecting its deep roots in the European electrical engineering research community while attracting global participation.

Each edition of SDEMPED has advanced the state of the art: early editions established the vocabulary and foundational methods of electrical machine diagnostics, while recent editions have expanded into data-driven and AI-assisted condition monitoring, digital twin approaches, and reliability engineering for power-electronics-intensive systems.

The proceedings are indexed in major scientific databases, ensuring that contributions reach the widest possible research audience. The SDEMPED community is sustained by the IEEE Industry Applications Society and the IEEE Industrial Electronics Society, among other technical co-sponsors.

2027 Edition

SDEMPED 2027 in Tallinn

SDEMPED 2027 will be held in Tallinn, Estonia, from 24 to 27 August 2027. Tallinn is one of Europe's most dynamic capitals for digital innovation, and it provides an inspiring backdrop for a symposium at the intersection of electrical engineering and intelligent systems.

The 2027 edition is organised jointly by Tallinn University of Technology (TalTech) and Aalto University, two leading research universities with internationally recognised programmes in electrical engineering, power systems, and condition monitoring. The organising team has extensive experience in hosting international IEEE events and is committed to delivering a high-quality scientific and social programme.

Authors are invited to submit original contributions on all aspects of diagnostics for electrical machines, power electronics, and drives. Full details of the topics of interest, submission guidelines, and important dates are available in the dedicated sections of this website.
