SDEMPED 2027 takes place in Tallinn, Estonia, 24–27 August 2027. Find travel information, accommodation guidance, and useful resources for your visit.
Host City
Tallinn, Estonia
Tallinn is the capital and largest city of Estonia, situated on the southern coast of the Gulf of Finland. A city of striking contrasts, Tallinn seamlessly blends a medieval heritage with a globally recognised reputation as one of Europe's most forward-looking digital societies.
The historic Old Town, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997, is one of the best-preserved medieval city centres in northern Europe, featuring Gothic town hall, limestone towers, and centuries-old merchant houses. Just beyond its walls lies a thriving modern city — home to a high concentration of technology companies and startups, and the birthplace of several globally influential digital services.
August in Tallinn brings long, warm summer days with average temperatures of 18–22°C, making it an ideal season to explore the city's coastal promenades, parks, and vibrant cultural scene. The city is compact and highly walkable, with excellent public transport connections throughout.
Delegates attending SDEMPED 2027 can look forward to a city that is both intellectually stimulating and genuinely welcoming — a fitting setting for a symposium at the intersection of engineering and emerging technology.

Getting There
Travelling to Tallinn
By Air
Tallinn Airport (TLL) — Lennart Meri Tallinn Airport
Tallinn Airport is located approximately 4 km from the city centre and is the primary international gateway. The airport serves direct routes from major European hubs including Helsinki, Stockholm, Riga, Warsaw, Frankfurt, Amsterdam, and others, with connections onwards to intercontinental destinations. Several airlines operate frequent services to and from Tallinn.
From the airport, the city centre and most hotels are accessible by tram (line 4), bus, or taxi in approximately 15–20 minutes. Rideshare services are also widely available.

Ferry from Helsinki, Finland
Tallinn is connected to Helsinki by regular passenger ferry services across the Gulf of Finland. The crossing takes approximately 2 hours and operates several times daily with multiple operators. The Tallinn ferry terminal (D-Terminal) is a short distance from the Old Town. This is a popular and scenic option for delegates travelling from Finland or Scandinavia.
By Rail & Road
Train & Coach Connections
Tallinn is served by Elron train services within Estonia and by international coach connections to Riga (Latvia) and other Baltic cities. Rail infrastructure in the Baltic region is also developing rapidly, with the Rail Baltica high-speed project progressing towards future completion. For delegates arriving from within the Baltic states, coach services are a frequent and convenient option.
Accommodation
Where to Stay
Tallinn offers a wide range of accommodation options to suit all budgets, from international hotel chains and boutique hotels in the Old Town to business hotels near the conference venue and modern apartment rentals throughout the city.
The organising committee will publish recommended hotels and, where possible, negotiated delegate rates as soon as the conference venue is confirmed. We strongly recommend booking early, particularly for accommodation near the city centre, as Tallinn is a popular destination in summer.
Recommendations Pending
Hotel recommendations and any group booking arrangements will be published on this page once the venue has been confirmed.
